Canine Social School

Dog and human names

“My dog jumps towards other dogs when we are walking on the street”.  “I can not walk relaxed with him/her, because I do not know when he/she will jump towards another dog, or even a person”.  “I must avoid every dog that we walk by, because I don’t know how he/she will react”.  “I’m thinking about castration, so he/she stops being aggressive”. “When someone comes to greet him/her, I don’t know how he/she is going to react”. “I feel shame when my dog barks to other dogs, because people think he/she is an aggressive dog”.

These situations that bring distrust and fear in the dog’s family are common. In our Canine Social School classes, we use tools and work protocols with the goal of walking our dog without conflicts with other dogs or people.

If you want to enter the Canine Social School with your dog, do not hesitate to enroll (for 6 months-old dogs and older). Once you have entered, month by month you will see how your dog is managing more difficult situations. Then you choose when to leave the School: maybe you want to stop once the main problem has been solved, or keep coming so you give your dog the chance to improve more his/her skills and tools to face different situations. Every day dogs develop and get new learnings and skills. You will see month by month that your dog’s attachment and trust keeps improving.

Duration: indefinite. As long as your dog and you want. Weekly classes, 1h/class. Maximum 4 dogs.

Work to be done during our Canine Social School classes:

In order to solve the canine reactivity and aggression problems towards other dogs and/or people our work has several goals:

• Build the right attachment between person and dog;
• Learn to read dog communication (for our dog but also for the dog that is walking by);
• Become a good reference for our dog: when there is anything uncomfortable for him/her, he/she looks for us, knowing we are there to help;
• Increase his/her tolerance towards uncomfortable stimuli (other dogs present, barking, running… some person who comes close to pet him/her…);
• Give him/her communicative tools that are at the same time useful to avoid the conflict.

Open enrollment plan

The Canine Social School classes are prepared and done in a way that you do not need to wait for the previous class to finish the complete course to enroll. In fact, there is no class members that start and end together (or just a few). There is always open enrollment. Month by month, and class to class you will learn and practice all the tools that help your dog in socializing right with dog and people. The only requirement needed to enter the School is that we have done previously an Evaluation Session for your dog and we know him/her: so, we will know if he/she has the needed skills to manage an environment where there will be a maximum of 4 dogs working. After the Evaluation Session, it is possible that we propose some private dog training sessions, so we get the dog prepared and having the needed tools, in the case he/she did not have them initially.
